BER Public Transport Restrictions from 18 to 31 August 2026

Passengers travelling to or from Berlin Brandenburg Airport should prepare for temporary public transport restrictions in August 2026. Berlin Brandenburg Airport updated its official travel advice on 30 July 2026.

The main disruption affects the S9 and S85 lines between Schöneweide and Treptower Park from 18 to 31 August 2026. Rail replacement buses will operate on this section because of construction work.

S9 and S85 replacement buses

During the affected period, passengers using the S9 or S85 should expect longer journey times and an additional change between train and replacement bus services.

BER recommends considering other connections, including the Airport Express FEX and regional trains. Travellers should check their complete route before departure rather than relying on their usual S-Bahn connection.

Possible restrictions during the night

Additional changes may occur during night-time travel to and from the airport. These can include altered departure times, partial cancellations or diversions.

Passengers travelling early in the morning or late at night should check the current VBB journey planner shortly before leaving for the airport.

FEX and regional train information

The FEX and RE20 together are scheduled to operate four times per hour until December 2026. Other regional services connecting BER include the RB22, RB24 and RB32, although night-time deviations may also affect these lines.

Separate maintenance work is also affecting the Berlin Stadtbahn. Regional and long-distance trains cannot use the section between Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof until 12 December 2026.

What BER passengers should do

Allow additional travel time if your route normally uses the S9 or S85 through Schöneweide, Treptower Park or nearby stations. Check the live timetable before departure and confirm which terminal your flight uses.

Passengers with an early flight, substantial luggage, children, business appointments or limited connection time should plan an alternative route in advance.

Airport transfer planning

Road transfers to and from BER are not part of the rail replacement measures. However, normal Berlin traffic conditions can still affect journey times, especially during weekday peak periods.

When booking an airport transfer, provide the correct pickup address, terminal, flight number and planned departure or arrival time. This allows the route and pickup time to be planned before the journey.
